Mum’s birthday!

October 3rd, 2005 by Annalena
With mum & Mel

Today was my mum’s 33rd birthday, and we did a lot of fun things. Firstly, my dad made pancakes with berries for breakfast, then Nanna and Asher visited (Grandpa and Bianca came yesterday and played in the garden). Then mum took me out for lunch, and we went to the parents’ group, and I played with all the other babies.

Mum's birthday party

Tonight we had a little party with auntie Mel, and lots of people rang up to say hello. We had a yummy Mexican meal for dinner, and then I had my first ever bath with my mum. It was the best bath fun I’ve ever had - much better than the little plastic bath my dad makes me splash around in.

A picnic with Mila, and afternoon tea with Wil

'Top and Tail' with Mila

Today was cold and blustery, and a storm was threatening all day. We had planned a big picnic of our parents group in the St Kilda Botanic Gardens, but most of the others were kept away by the dark storm clouds. Mila and I got snugly into her pram, ‘top and tail’ style, which kept us out of the cold wind, which also made me a bit stormy.

Posing with Wil (and dads)

In the afternoon we stayed in our warm and cosy loungeroom, and Nick and Kellie and Wil came over to visit. I met Wil a couple of months ago, but since then we’ve both grown so much. I also thought he was a bit of a flirt (or was that me?) Jim also came to the afternoon tea, to meet me and to introduce me to his big fluffy dog. He certainly is a big dog, even bigger than Deb’s dog Griffin (but not as fluffy).

Deb&DogDeb and Griffin came over later tonight, but Jim had already gone home, so unfortunately the dogs didn’t get to play together. We didn’t take any photos tonight (too busy playing cards I guess), but here is a cute photo of Deb and her dog from a while back.

Jess’s Graduation Party

October 14th, 2005 by Annalena

Dr JessAnother week, another party! Tonight we went to another party at Jess’s place, this time to celebrate her PhD graduation. I’m now much more grown up that I was at Jess’s last party, and can sit up on the couch all by myself, and engage in deep and meaningful conversation with all the clever philosophers.

Out in the pram

Pram fun

I’m definitely bigger and happier in the pram that I used to be. I reckon the fun toys make all the difference!

Today we had our parents’ group, and then I went for my 16 week check up (yes, I was 16 weeks old last Saturday). I’m almost up to 6 kg weight, but I haven’t grown much longer since the last weigh-in (I’m now about 64.5cm). I guess that all my energy is going into brain power (and writing this blog takes quite a bit of that!)

Injection Day

October 18th, 2005 by Annalena

Today I was very brave. I had my second round of vaccinations, and although I cried a bit I think I dealt with it very well. After the injections I felt pretty good, and I was happy to recount my experience to my dad when he came home:

A funeral, a lunch, and time with Uncle Heath

Heath's ride

I went to my first funeral today. It was a very sad occasion.

After a nice lunch with Nanna and Asher, I went home and who turned up but Uncle Heath! He had driven all the way from South Australia in this big old rusty car. I was very happy to see him, but I was definitely overdue for my afternoon nap.

Aubrey and a squid

Giant Squid!
At Aubrey's party

Two fun things happened today. Firstly, in the morning a package arrived for me, containing a bright, pink, felt squid! Thanks KRin, you are a genius! It is a lot of fun, although I’m not sure who likes it more, me or my dad (who sometimes seems a tad obsessed with squid).

Then, in the afternoon, I went out to Monash and went to yet another party. This party was a celebration for Aubrey Townsend, who taught and worked with both of my parents.

4 months old today!

Strumming Along

Happy 13 birthday to me,
Happy 13 birthday to me!

Here I am singing along to my dad’s strumming yesterday morning. I’m not actually sure he was awake.

Today we went to visit my mum’s friend Cordelia, and her little boys Oliver and Isaac. Cordelia lent my mum a few books, including one called The Baby Whisperer. Supposedly the book will teach my parents how to treat me with respect, so that I’ll sleep well and not cry so much. But maybe it isn’t anyone’s fault that I get hungry every few hours, and why shouldn’t I cry a bit when I want some comfort? So the book looks like a load of claptrap to me, but I think my parents are quite amused by it, and it may even teach them a thing or two.

Sunny days

October 30th, 2005 by Annalena

This time there is not much to report. We had a fairly laid back weekend, and the weather is sunny and warm. On Saturday Auntie Mel came over for a visit and we all played in the back yard. Even so, my mum spent a LOT of time looking at her computer screen (usually my dad is the one doing that!) I also spent a lot of time trying to stay awake during the day when I probably should have slept. I guess I just want to see and do everything possible when the weather is this good.
