Baby Massage

July 27th, 2005 by Annalena

Yesterday we went down to the local maternal health centre for the second meeting of the parents group. This week we learnt about infant massage (there is also a good guide here).

Wk08_04_mila_annalena_ivWk08_01_mila_annalena_iI made a new friend this week. Her name is Mila, and we had a lot of fun looking and laughing at each other. I hadn’t really met another baby before - the only baby I had ever spent time looking at before this was the one I can see in the mirror when I have a bath!

Wk08_07_allemaal_babies_iWhen the massage session began all of us babies were placed on a rug in the center of the room. Our parents then asked us whether we wanted a massage, just to make sure it was ok with us. Of course, I didn’t really understand the question, but it all seemed like a lot of fun so I didn’t complain. The other babies were already naked and being massaged, and seemed to be enjoying it a lot. (That’s me in the green wondersuit and the bright pink crocheted cardigan).

Wk08_11_allemaal_babies_iiiThen my mum took all of my clothes off and rubbed my legs with warm almond oil. Following the instructions of the massage teacher Lisa, she then rubbed my tummy clockwise with a “sun set-moon rise” stroke, which is supposed to help tone the digestive track and deal with wind and colic. I enjoyed it so much and became so relaxed that I emptied my bladder all over my mum! She then rubbed my arms, and turned me over to rub my bottom and back.

Wk08_12_relaxedBut by that stage I had had enough for one day, and was also pretty hungry again, although I could see that Mila was really enjoying having her back rubbed. After a good feed I was also pretty relaxed, and fell into a very deep sleep.

I now look forward to a massage every day. It makes me smile!

War of the Worlds

July 27th, 2005 by Annalena

War_of_the_worlds_posterThis evening I went to the cinema for the first time. We went to see War of the Worlds, which probably wasn’t the top of my list of films to see (I would have preferred staying home and watching Spongebob), but I think my parents enjoyed it. I actually slept through a lot of it, though I did wake up and watch one of the scariest scenes of the tripods wreaking devastation.

I had brunch at my Great-grandmother’s place today. I’m so lucky to have such a fun bubba. We hadn’t seen each other for a long time, and I was so happy to see her. We laughed and laughed.

After brunch we went to a shop full of old books, and then to lunch with Jess, Jill, Rob and Deb. Such a busy, social day!

Dinner out in the City

August 4th, 2005 by Annalena

I went to a big and fancy restaurant in the city tonight, to say goodbye to one of my dad’s colleagues, who is going to work in England. That excites me, because I think I heard mummy saying that we may be going to England next year too!

Here I’m meeting Henry Linger, one of the people my dad spends his days playing with instead of staying home and playing with me.

Go Saints!

I went to my first football game tonight. So many people, so much colour and lights and sounds, and when the crowd roared when St Kilda kicked a goal I thrust my arms in the air with joy! I’m not sure what it all meant, but lots of people seemed to get really excited when the Saints won.

It was all good for me until the long wait at Spencer Street Station for the train home. Then we packed into the train with all the other fans, and although I cried a bit (I was VERY tired) I behaved really well and made lots of new friends.

Another Busy Day

Another busy day of visiting family. First we dropped in at Julie’s place and picked up a cd player, so I can listen to my baby Bach - no, I prefer something a bit funkier! The we had lunch with Nanna Luba and Asher, and this time we remembered to take Old Ted with us when we left.

Then we went home, with barely any time for a nap before we went out to dinner with Auntie Mel.

Grandpa comes to visit

Grandpa Jeff and Bianca came to visit this morning. Biance was working hard in the garden while I was playing with Grandpa. I really liked it when he kissed me.

After that I had a sleep in my big cot, and then my mum took me shopping for some funky new clothes (even thought I have SO many clothes from all my cousins). We then went to see a film, which was great to watch - so many great contrasting colours, and interesting black and white patterns. But it was very long and very noisy, and perhaps a bit gratuitously violent.

Thanks for all the presents!!!

Presents!!

I just LOVE being surrounded by all these fun things! Thanks to everyone who sent cards, and flowers, and presents, and thanks to all who called and visited and said hello to me from all over the world, even Tasmania!

I’ve also started a new photo album because the first one got up to 50 photos. You can still look at the first album here, and the new one is here.

Party time!

With Deb & Sam at Jess's party

I went to a party last night. It was a birthday party for Jess and her twin sister Zoe. Lots of fun! Lots of people to talk to and play with. Here I am with Deb and Sam.

Just lounging around …

Lounging around

This weekend was not as exciting as last weekend, although I did enjoy the party on Friday night. On Saturday I spent most of the day lounging around and playing with my favourite toys: the smiley spider, the squeaky bird, and the pentapus. I was planning to go out to another party on Saturday night, but I was way too tired.

Yawn!

On Sunday Nanna and Asher and my cousins Ruby, Leah and Hannah came to visit, but I was still very tired from the busy day before. But today I feel much better, after a good sleep, and a fun bath with my dad!

Luke’s Birthday

August 17th, 2005 by Annalena

P81700030vzcropToday was my uncle Luke’s birthday, and we all went out for a yummy Japanese meal. Here I am with Luke and my aunt Julie.

This time I finally managed to have a picture taken of me playing with Luke, and he does seem quite excited about it in this photo. I think he may have been under the mistaken impression that my parents had given me to him as a present for his birthday.

On the wild and windy coast

Wild and wooly

It has been such a busy weekend. We went down the Great Ocean Rd with Rob & Deb, and I had my first trip to the beach. Wild, windy and woolly! We walked along the beach and played with Griffin the shaggy dog, and then on the way back we saw some koalas.

In the swing of things

We spent most of the time in the house, lounging around, listening to all sorts of music, eating, drinking and playing games. Here I am getting into the swing of things. I was also quite amused by Rob playing with the colourful birds that flew in and pecked at him.

Today we drove all the way back to Melbourne, to go to afternoon tea with Jill, Cordelia, Oliver, Kim, Sam and the cutest pussy cat EVER. And after that I went to meet my step-uncle Yos and his family, and my other step-cousins Odette and Aria were there, and others who were sort-of-cousins (it is SO confusing in my extended family). So now I am VERY tired. I’ve had a fun bath, and now I’m about to go to bed.
