Buffy’s back???

Friday, November 4th, 2005

From Pharyngula (via Amygdala) comes this interesting news.
Marti Noxon, executive producer of UPN’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer in its last seasons, told SCI FI Wire that the popular series’ characters may live on in direct-to-DVD movies. “There are serious discussions going on about bringing some of the characters back and making a few movies that […]

“Intelligent Design” and “War of the Worlds”

Thursday, July 28th, 2005

We took a bit of time out to see the Spielberg’s War of the Worlds yesterday. I won’t review the film (it was ok, though spoiled by too many miracles and an insipidly sentimental ending), but I do have some comments I want to vent from my spleen…
One thing that really struck me were the […]

Review: Ginger Snaps Back (2004)

Monday, June 6th, 2005

We watched the third and final Ginger Snaps film last night, and I must admit I found it fairly disappointing after the first two.

Review: “Ginger Snaps: Unleashed”

Friday, June 3rd, 2005

The sequel to Ginger Snaps, Unleashed is another gem of a horror movie.
“My best case scenario Eleanor, is hair everywhere but my eyeballs, elongation of my spine until my skin splits, teets, and a growing affection to the smell or taste of faeces and not just my own…and then excruciating death.”
*** Warning: The following review […]

Review: Revenge of the Sith

Friday, May 27th, 2005

Saw the latest Lucasaid film last night. I’ll write my own review this time.
I’m surprised that so many people have reviewed this film favourably. I know the bar has been set abominably low by the previous two offerings, but this is still a piece of bland, wooden, eye-candy (and the candy ain’t even that sweet). […]

Review: Ginger Snaps (2000)

“They Don’t Call It The Curse For Nothing”
Why didn’t this get a mainstream cinema release? Maybe it had something to do with the fact that it seems aimed at 15-16 year old girls, yet openly embraces themes such as death, suicide, drug-use, sex, and of course rather graphic violence.

A few brief film reviews.

Thursday, May 26th, 2005

I’ve been a bit slack with the movie reviews of late. Here’s a few 2 line reviews, which will be followed by a more thorough review of Ginger Snaps (2000), a real gem of a horror film.

Review: the Interpreter

Wednesday, May 11th, 2005

What a dud. Stupid plot, awful script, lame acting, and tedious to the extreme. This certainly confirms my opintion that “our” Nicole is the most overrated actor in Hollywood.
Unfortunately, it seems that most imdb.com reviewers disagree with me. But I did finally find one that seemed spot-on:

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (2005)

Wednesday, May 4th, 2005

Rather than review the film (it was OK, though it stripped some of the more subversive content from the book: the strange importance of little green pieces of paper; the Babel Fish proof of the non-existence of God; it ain’t easy being a cop. 3/5) I thought I’d post the link to the legendary text-based […]

Review: I (Heart) Huckabees

Friday, April 29th, 2005

I had a difficult time finding a review of I (Heart) Huckabees that I agreed with. In the end I opted for this review , which sums up many of my thoughts about the film, though it perhaps is a bit more glowing about it than I would be. This is mainly because I thought […]
